Hurricane FAQ – If I cash my claim check, am I accepting that as the final amount?

We’ve gotten a lot of questions about hurricanes, and a very common one is: If I cash my claim check, am I accepting that as the final amount? So we thought we’d talk a bit about that in this post and video.

One of the most common questions that we receive after a claim has happened is “If I cash my check from the carrier, is that me accepting this as the final result for my claim?”

The answer is no, depositing your check does not impede you from being able to claim further damages, or having somebody come out to assess for further damages.

If your adjuster accepts that there are further damages, they will be giving you a check in excess of what you’ve already received. So, you can definitely cash the check and get started on repairing or replacing your damaged property.
