The term named storm means any organized weather system with a defined surface circulation and maximum sustained winds winds of at least thirty nine miles per hour, which the National Hurricane Center of the U. S. National Weather Service names as a tropical storm or a hurricane. A binding restriction is when a carrier restricts us from being able to bind or modify any coverage.

The insurance industry has developed what we affectionately call the box, which is a certain latitude and longitude. If the tropical storm or a hurricane is passing through that box and enters it, they can shut down us being able to bind or modify any coverage. Once a named storm either dissipates or moves outside of the box and no longer poses a threat to the coast, binding coverage is reinstated and we can submit or modify coverage with the carriers. A lot of people ask what is affected property from a named storm.

Well, it can be personal or commercial property and physical damage, anything to automobiles, boats, fences, actual dwelling, equipment, many things. If you already have coverage in place, your existing renewal will not be affected by a named storm. Coverage cannot be revoked, which was already offered. So should you have any questions, please call or email us.

We'd be happy to address any concerns or questions you may have.
