Fall is around the corner, and with it comes a myriad of potential hazards. We're not quite out of hurricane season yet, and we will begin to have potential cold fronts pushing through producing severe storms, strong winds, rainfall, lightning and possibly tornadoes. Preparing your home properly is essential to mitigate the risks associated with fall weather. As the air cools outdoor maintenance might actually even become pleasant.

Fall Home Maintenance Checklist
Consider adding the following items to your fall home maintenance checklist:

  • Keep gutters and downspouts clean.
  • Check the roof for signs of wear and damage.
  • Inspect your furnace and replace filters.
  • Test smoke and carbon monoxide detectors.
  • Disconnect and store hoses.
  • Swap/fix window screens for storm windows.
  • Seal air leaks in doors and windows.
  • Inspect and clean your fireplace chimney.
  • Bring outdoor furniture inside.
  • Fix any cracks in your driveway.

Reviewing your homeowners insurance coverage may also be beneficial when preparing your home for fall and winter weather. Contact your agent to discuss your coverage options.
