What do you do here at Wells and how did you get started?

ETHAN: I work in IT and try to keep the computers working. At 14 or 15 I started getting into online sites that allow you to type html code and change simple things. That struck a chord with me. It was really interesting how you could control what’s visible on the page: background colors, where text boxes sit, how the clicks worked and where they lead. From then I’ve always been interested in how the back end works, how to make it more efficient, and look proper on the page. IT is a little less of that, but still in the same wheelhouse where it fits really well for me.

How long have been at Wells?

ETHAN: I’ve worked here for about a year and I came from a background in night audit and working with servers.

Favorite Book: The Silmarillion (Lord of The Rings)

Why Wells? What do you like most about working here?

ETHAN: Definitely the people. Working with different people who are excited to be here, excited to work, excited about their job makes a difference.

How has working at Wells positively impacted your life?

ETHAN: It has helped me with having others I can learn from, and having a challenge in different ways that I haven’t in the past.

Favorite Music: mewithoutYou – Real big fan of their work and how they’ve done different albums.

Favorite TV Show: We’re not really TV people , but if I had to pick one…Breaking Bad

Favorite Podcast: Your Mom’s House…and it’s not appropriate for work! LOL

What do you enjoy most about your specific job?

ETHAN: Finding the nuances of what’s causing issues, correcting those issues, and then seeing the result in everybody’s day to day work. Seeing that something is simpler or works better is satisfying in that sense.

Best career lesson you’ve learned over the years?

ETHAN: Just keeping things ordered really makes everything easier. Priority wise, what has to get done in what order is simple but makes a big difference.

How have you used your experience to help people?

ETHAN: My personal interest in shortcuts and specific efficiency of ways to open and do things a little faster.

How do you define success?

ETHAN: Peace of mind and satisfaction with where you’re at and what you’re doing inside and outside of work.

What’s your favorite volunteer activity?

ETHAN: Definitely reading. My family, in general, have always enjoyed reading and reading aloud. I think learning to read and reading comprehension leads to and lets you learn just about anything. For kids that don’t have that influence, I find it very satisfying to share reading with them working through local churches. For me it strikes a chord. I want to share that skill and that experience with others.

What do you like to do when you’re not working?

ETHAN: Board games, video games, going out to movies or bars to hang out with people. My family has a pretty long history of nerdy board games that I really enjoy. My favorite recently is Lord of the Rings Trivia. It’s awful!! We love how annoying and difficult it is. I love putting my brothers, my family and even my dad through that. Favorite video game lately is a Nintendo game emulator online for free. Mario Cart, Mario Party, the old school ones are really fun!

What’s at the top of your bucket list?

ETHAN: SCUBA diving in clear water. I want to go experience that in America and other places.

What’s the best advice you’ve been given?

ETHAN: To think about what you’re focusing on. If it’s negative or just a task you’re working on, it’s probably not healthy to only focus on that.
